Brain Farts

About two weeks ago, I said something really random to Liz that caused a good amount of laughter. But this isn't just a one time occurrence. Anyone who knows me, knows that I say some awfully random stuff and it just comes out of nowhere. Often times, I will say "You know what?" and my friends will say "Oh no... what?"

So after my random comment, Liz says "you know what you should do? Every time you have these random thoughts, just write them down, and after one week, post them on the blog as brain farts". So here they are... my random thoughts over the past week... enjoy :)

  • if i were to interview for a job at a daycare, couldn't they just hand me the worst 4 month old they have and see how i feel after an hour.
  • wouldn't it be handy if after a shower, i could just step out and shake off like dogs do. no towel would be needed.
  • i thought about this while running and watching the news. We only get ONE life to live, can you believe Blagojevich chose to do that with his one opportunity? oh my gosh, never mind, O.J. Simpson.
  • if i were still in college, i wonder what kind of attention i could get by declaring that I would forgo my senior year, and enter the NFL draft. could i get any team to really seriously evaluate me even if i was just a computer science major and not a football player?
  • if blooper were given a new definition... what could i make it mean?
  • is there a worse job than being a disher washer for the show "iron chef"?
  • if i could choose any animal to have the same temperament as a dog... i think id choose a tiger... i wonder if im allergic?
  • if gryffin were a person, he'd be really selfish and drive a huge truck that annoys everyone around him. also he would let his dog poop on your lawn with no remorse.

The Unthinkable

It snowed in North Carolina. Liz and I are enjoying a day at home with the puppies and watching Daisy and occasionally Gryffin running around in the snow. We thought we'd share some pictures of the unthinkable.

Daisy loves the snow and will not come in even if we open the door. What she is begging for is Gryffin to come out and play:

Gryffin says "it's so cold, do I have to go out there again?"

Can I Come In Please?!?!

Anyone who has been to our house knows that when Daisy goes out, she has a very specific way of requesting to come inside. She gets on her back two legs and taps the glass with her front paws very fast. One day as a joke, Liz got down and imitated her. Turns out, it just spurns Daisy on and the results are hilarious... I apologize for all my laughing in the video... check it out:

Over the Christmas holiday, Liz pulled a complete 180 on me and I just have to express my joy on the blog.

As kids, we all have our little preferences as to what foods we like and dislike. For me, I hated onions. I refused to eat them in anything even if I knew they were there but couldn't taste or see them. To this day I still hesitate with onions and am not thrilled with the raw onion taste, but I've gotten over it and eat them in anything. For Liz it was beans and she has never been able to stand them. The taste, the texture, everything about them was repulsive to her. What this also meant for our household was no chili, no refried beans, not baked beans... nothing like that or anything with beans... until...

Over New Years, we went to Atlanta to see my family and one of the dinners my sister made was a big pot of her chunky chili. I of course was thrilled but I think I could sense some hesitation with Liz. It wasn't the taste of chili, it wasn't any of the ingredients except beans that she was worried about. So dinner was served and the whole table chows down. I am usually a fast eater and by the time I finish my bowl, I start to get up for a refill and look over and Liz says "can you get me another bowl too?!" I tried to act nonchalant about it and got her another bowl the same size as mine. She downed the second as well.

After dinner I asked "so you liked it?!" and she said "yeah it was really good!" After further discussion, she was able to tolerate the beans and enjoyed everything else. I wasn't going to hold out hope that it was a taste changing dinner.

It is now January 17th, and tonight we are going to enjoy our 3rd chili dinner (not to mention the many left overs I have enjoyed) and I just want to jump up and down at the 180 that Liz has pulled with beans and chili. I told her last week "I don't want to talk about the fact that you have made chili twice since Atlanta because I don't want to ruin what we have going here... but you like beans now don't you?" And she said "They're ok", which I think is translated to "yeah they are really good but I don't want to admit it."

So after 1.5 years of no chili meals in the house, we are now enjoying the reintroduction of chili and I can't express how happy it makes me. Also all 3 chili recipes she's used have been different so I think she's enjoying the creativeness it has brought to cooking new meals. I don't think I'm going to hold out hope for refried beans though... and that's ok.

If you have any awesome chili recipes you can send Liz, feel free, cuz we'll try em now :).

Secret Santa Wood Project

So I don't feel like saying so much... and I won't but I thought I'd post what I made for my secret santa. For anyone who doesn't know, I've made it a tradition to make something out of wood for my person every year in the Fulton Family Secret Santa. Last year I made a magazine rack. This year I got my Dad and I know he's not great at organizing his shoes or hats. So I made him this cabinet to hang near the garage door so he can hold his shoes and hang his hats. I must say I have improved dramatically since last year too. I also made a wooden cross but I didn't take a picture of that. Here are a couple pictures of the cabinet:

I made two of the cabinets so I could sell the second one. I'm hoping I can make up for the money I spent on both. Also I had to post this picture of Daisy, cuz even when she's sleeping she's awesome. This is from Christmas day... she must be knocked out from all the food too...

One More Resolution

So I realized I forgot one more resolution, so instead of just adding it to a previous post, I thought I would make a new post so that everyone can be like "oh, he blogged again" instead of not noticing at all (cuz it's that important).

The 4th resolution is "No TV Monday's". This is going to be crazy hard because I will be the first one to admit, I am pathetically obsessed with television. If I spent as much time wood working as I do watching TV, our house would have more rich mahogany furniture than Ron Burgundy's house. I watch too many shows and there are far too many shows I'm already not watching that I would enjoy watching. So to curb that obsession and make time for my other resolutions, I think it would be awesome if one day a week we went without the TV.

I love Liz's comment to this resolution... "I guess I automatically have no choice but to inherit this resolution then." Our compromise was to do it Monday instead of the day I originally picked (Wednesday) because Lost is coming back on TV. How wrong is it that I had to negotiate the day of this resolution based on our TV schedule, when the resolution is to not base every day our lives on a TV schedule. But I think Liz is OK with this, because she is always wanting to read more, and do other things than watch TV so I think she'll really enjoy this resolution as well.

One more thing, she told me I need more blogs with pictures, because they are too "pictureless", so because I have no pictures for this blog, I looked up the word "pictureless" in Google Images and this picture came up... I don't know if this is necessary, but Stephen Colbert reserves all rights probably.
